Euphorbiaceae: A Diverse and Economically Important Family 0f Flowering Plants

Abstract:

Euphorbiaceae, commonly known as the Spurge Family, is one of the largest and most diverse families of flowering plants. It comprises approximately 300 genera and over 7,500 species distributed throughout tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions of the world. Members of this family exhibit remarkable diversity in morphology, ecology, and economic importance. The family includes herbs, shrubs, trees, climbers, and succulent plants. Many species possess medicinal, ornamental, industrial, and agricultural significance. Some economically valuable plants such as Ricinus communis (castor), Hevea brasiliensis (rubber tree), Manihot esculenta (cassava), and Euphorbia pulcherrima (poinsettia) belong to this family. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the taxonomy, morphology. distribution, economic importance, medicinal applications, ecological significance, and future prospects of Euphorbiaceae.
